Why do I snore?
Snoring happens when air cannot move freely through your nose and throat during sleep. This makes the surrounding tissues vibrate and produces the familiar snoring sound.
People can snore for various reasons, including:

-
Being overweight
-
Consuming alcohol before bed
-
Chronic nasal congestion
-
Sleeping on your back
-
Chronic tiredness
-
Loss of muscle tone in the throat as we age
-
A low, thick, soft palate or enlarged tonsils
-
A more severe condition known as obstructive sleep apnea- a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts.

Not all snorers have these issues, and not everyone who has these issues snores.
It's essential to speak to a dentist if your snoring is causing you or your partner to lose sleep or if you notice you're more tired during the day.
